Sunday School & Youth Programs

Sunday School
Sunday school classes are available for all ages from Toddler (ages 2-3) through Adult. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 9:45 a.m.  Each classroom follows a Bible-based curriculum specifically geared for that age group.  During the summer months we have a single Sunday School class for all the children.

Jr. Church
During the 10:00 a.m. worship service, students preschool age through third grade may attend junior church in the junior youth room. The students are dismissed to this activity by the pastor after the children’s sermon. During this time period, the students will usually listen to a Bible story, make a craft and/or play games.

Church Nursery
During the 10:00 a.m. worship service, an excellent nursery is provided for children up to kindergarten age. In addition, there is a closed circuit television available in the nursery which broadcasts the service for those parents who wish to stay with their children. However, two adults will always be on duty in the nursery in compliance with the safe church policy.

Safe Child Church Policy
Salem has instituted a safe child church policy in order to create a safe environment in which our children can learn about God’s love and grow in their faith. A copy of the main portion of Salem’s policy is posted in every classroom and you can read them online by clicking here.

OTHER YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Junior Youth Group
The junior youth group meets regularly and is open to all children up through 6th grade. Their program is designed to provide opportunities for our youth to have fun and make new friends in a safe, God-centered environment. Events enjoyed by the junior youth this year include a party with an inflatable and ice cream, the annual Halloween party/carnival, Thanksgiving celebration where they played games and made crafts for our shut-ins, fun field games at the church picnic, the annual Easter egg hunt, and Christmas caroling to the shut-ins.

Senior Youth Group
The senior youth group is open to all students who are in 7th through 12th grade. The group usually meets twice a month and their activities are varied and student selected. The group’s mission is to provide opportunities for Salem youth to “hang out” in a Christian Fellowship environment, expand their circle of friends to fellow Christian youth in the area, and provide opportunities to work in the community and within Salem.  Events enjoyed by the senior youth this year include a trip to Sky Zone, cooking for the Easter breakfast, the annual white water rafting trip, running the raffle at the chicken supper, planning & carrying out the haunted house at the Halloween Party, and a fun overnight lock-in at the end of the year.

Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible school is usually held in early June and runs Sunday through Wednesday in the evening. The Women’s Guild provides a light supper prior to the evening activities. This event is a great deal of fun for ages preschool through 5th grade. Group (non-denominational) curriculum is primarily used for this event.

Sunday School Christmas Play / Musical
Every year, the children in Sunday school (ages nursery through 7th grade) perform a play or musical for the congregation usually on the second Sunday of December. Practices for the play start in November and are held during the Sunday School time. All students are invited to be a part of this fun event.
