Prayer of Preparation

Praise and thanks be given to Thee, Lord our God, that we are again permitted to commemorate the coming of Thy dear Son. Grant, that we may receive Him with joy, and serve Thee in purity of heart and abiding faith, through Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WELCOME TO OUR WORSHIP SERVICE—Is this your first time at Salem?   If so, welcome. We’re so glad to have you with us.  If you’d like for us to get to know you better you can use a connection card located in the seat pocket in front of you and drop it in the offering plate in the Narthex. Also, be sure to stop at the Narthex on your way out for a gift from us. Thank you for coming!

TODAY’S SPECIAL BULLETINS are given by Terry and Barb Huber.

TODAY IS THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT.   Advent is a season of preparation for Christmas.  During these four Sundays Christians remember the long process God used to prepare his people for the coming of the savior.  We are reminded that the true meaning of Christmas comes only to those whose hearts have been made ready.

ANNUAL BUDGET MEETING – Salem’s annual budget meeting is planned for Sunday, December 6th following the 10:00am service in the Fellowship Hall. There will be no 8:00am service or 11:30am service that Sunday to encourage member attendance at the meeting.  In order to have a quorum, we will be broadcasting the meeting over our  radio station 87.9FM if you would like to drive-in and participate (submit questions and vote) from the parking lot.  Please join us for this meeting on 12/6 so we will have a quorum.  The budget was mailed out in the December Echo and is also available in the Narthex and Fellowship Hall.

ADVENT BIBLE STUDY – Join us each Thursday in the weeks leading up to Christmas for our live-stream Advent Bible Study. We will meet online on December 3rd, 10th, and 17th at 6:30pm, and the link is  Pastor David will be leading the 3 session study on the Old Testament readings for Advent from the Lectionary which are from the prophet Isaiah.

FROM THE PASTORAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE:  Each December we meet with Pastor David.  At that time we share with him any compliments or any suggestions we have been given by those who attend our church. We will include your name when we meet or your comments may remain anonymous.  Please let us know your comments by the end of November.  This is also a time when Pastor David can tell us of things he feels would be an addition to the life of the church.  We regard this meeting as one where we can share your ideas and receive any requests from Pastor David.  In this way, we can encourage each other as we all strive to glorify God by our work in our church.  Please contact any of us directly, or leave a note for us in the church office.  Thank you!  Warren Hill, Dan Alcorn, and Debbie Balsdon

BOXES FOR OUR SERVICEMEN/SHUT-INS – The Women’s Guild will again be sending boxes to our servicemen for Christmas and delivering cookies to our shut-ins.  We are in need of cookies and ask them to be brought to the kitchen on or before Sunday, December 6th.  Please mark the containers for “shut-ins” or “servicemen”.

THE JUNIOR YOUTH WILL BE COLLECTING HATS AND MITTENS for children in need this year.  The collection will start on November 29th, and the tree to place your donations is located near the elevator in the Fellowship Hall.  Sizes requested range from preschool through adult.  These will be distributed to school kids in need within the local EVSC.  The last day for collection will be December 24th.  Thank you for helping children in need!

CHRISTMAS EVE — WE WILL BE OFFERING FOUR DIFFERENT CANDLELIGHT SERVICES THIS YEAR so we can spread out to worship more safely.  We are offering services at 5:00pm, 7:00pm, 9:00pm, and 11:00pm. You will need to call the church office at 812-867-3142 (you can leave a message) by December 17th to make reservations so we can keep track of how many people will be at each service.  All services will include the singing of carols, the reading of the Christmas story, sharing in the Lord’s supper, and the symbolic passing of the light of Christ.  We look forward to sharing with you the celebration of the birth of our Lord!

JUNIOR YOUTH CHRISTMAS BOXES — Since we have been unable to meet due to the Coronavirus, we wanted to do something special for all of our junior youth group members to show them how much we miss them!  With the holidays around the corner, we have put together some special surprises for our youth (ages 6th grade and below) to get everyone excited for CHRISTmas.  Please feel free to pick them up at your convenience in the church office, which is open on Sunday mornings and also Monday-Thursday mornings from 8am-noon.  We hope this helps your family to celebrate the birth of Jesus in a special way!

NEW LISTENING OPTION FOR OUR INDOOR/OUTDOOR SERVICE at 8:00am on Sunday mornings.  If you would like to park your car at the far end of the lot by the cemetery, you can tune your radio to 87.9FM and listen to the service.  Or you can still bring your lawn chair to the west end of the Fellowship Hall by the cemetery and sit apart outside.  The Fellowship Hall is also open for those who feel comfortable sitting inside.  Pastor David conducts the service in the doorway between the two groups.

THE PRAYER GROUP is meeting at church in the new Conference Room at 6:30pm on Wednesdays (in the old Jr Church room).  Social distancing is practiced and wearing a face mask is encouraged.  The prayer group welcomes anyone who would like to join us in prayer.  They will also be continuing the Messenger Rooms group as well for those who are not comfortable meeting in person.  If you would like to be added to the group meeting online, please email Pastor David at

The Kids of Salem Church are proud to present A LIVING ADVENT CALENDAR at the 10am service on Sunday, December 13th.  This year our play will be pre-recorded and viewed on the big screen and live on Facebook!  Each door of our Advent Calendar will open to reveal something or someone special! Who knows what we will find? Wait and see!
